Amazon.com J.J. Abrams' 2009 feature film was billed as "not your father's emStar Trek/em," but your father will probably love it anyway. And what's not to love? It has enough action, emotional impact, humor, and sheer fun for any moviegoer, and Trekkers will enjoy plenty of insider references and a cast that seems ideally suited to portray the characters we know they'll become later. Both a prequel and a reboot, emStar Trek/em introduces us to James T. Kirk (Chris Pine of emThe Princess Diaries 2/em), a sharp but aimless young man who's prodded by a Starfleet captain, Christopher Pike (Bruce Greenwood), to enlist and make a difference. At the Academy, Kirk runs afoul of a Vulcan commander named Spock (Zachary Quinto of emHeroes/em), but their conflict has to take a back seat when Starfleet, including its new ship, the emEnterprise/em, has to answer an emergency call from Vulcan. What follows is a stirring tale of genocide and revenge launched by a Romulan (Eric Bana) with a particular interest in Spock, and we get to see the familiar crew come together, including McCoy (Karl Urban), Uhura (Zoe Saldana), Sulu (John Cho), Chekhov (Anton Yelchin), and Scottie (Simon Pegg).pThe action and visuals make for a spectacular Big-Screen Movie, though the plot by Abrams and his writers, Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman (who worked together on emTransformers/em and with Abrams on emAlias/em and emMission Impossible III/em), and his producers (fellow emLost/emies Damon Lindeloff and Bryan Burk) can be a bit of a mind-bender (no surprise there for emLost/em fans). Hardcore fans with a bone to pick may find faults, but resistance is futile when you can watch Kirk take on the emKobayashi Maru/em scenario or hear McCoy bark, "Damnit, man, I'm a doctor, not a physicist!" An appearance by Leonard Nimoy and hearing the late Majel Barrett Roddenberry as the voice of the computer simply sweeten the pot. Now comes the hard part: waiting for some sequels to this terrific prequel. em--David Horiuchi/em/p br /br / span class="h1"strongStills from emStar Trek /em(Click for larger image)/strong/span table border="0" cellpadding="4" cellspacing="4" width="100%" p/p p/p tbody tr align="center" valign="top" tdimg align="left" border="0" height="125" src="http://g-ecx.images-amazon.com/images/G/01/dvd/paramount/startrek/ST_1S.jpg" style="float: left; border: 0;" width="300" / br //td p/p tdimg align="left" border="0" height="125" src="http://g-ecx.images-amazon.com/images/G/01/dvd/paramount/startrek/ST_2S.jpg" style="float: left; border: 0;" width="300" / br //td tdimg align="left" border="0" height="125" src="http://g-ecx.images-amazon.com/images/G/01/dvd/paramount/startrek/ST_3S.jpg" style="float: left; border: 0;" width="300" / br //td p/p /tr tr align="center" valign="top" tdimg align="left" border="0" height="125" src="http://g-ecx.images-amazon.com/images/G/01/dvd/paramount/startrek/ST_4S.jpg" style="float: left; border: 0;" width="300" /br //td p/p tdimg align="left" border="0" height="125" src="http://g-ecx.images-amazon.com/images/G/01/dvd/paramount/startrek/ST_5S.jpg" style="float: left; border: 0;" width="300" /br //td tdimg align="left" border="0" height="125" src="http://g-ecx.images-amazon.com/images/G/01/dvd/paramount/startrek/ST_6S.jpg" style="float: left; border: 0;" width="300" /br //td br / p/p /tr tr align="center" valign="top" tdbr //td p/p tdbr //td tdbr //td /tr /tbody /table p/p

Minus 1star for the TERRIBLE Villians March 14, 2010 Ctyve Sabbai Great Movie Terrible Villians...CGI 5/5-Top notch special effects...Casting 5/5-Great casting, everyone fit into their roles nicely, there was noone i didnt like...Story 3/5-same old story, "im mad at you cus you didnt save my planet"...Villians 1/5-tattooed romulans with a case of misplaced rage, i was hoping for a Strong villian like Khan or Borg type, maybe in the sequel...
Star Trek Reborn March 14, 2010 Timothy F. Felleman Excellent work in establishing a new timeline. Story very weak in following standard grandfather timetravel paradox. Hopefully this movie will kick off a new story line.
Star Trek BR is awesome March 13, 2010 Robert L. Loving (Otown Fla.) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I was hoping that the blue ray disc would be able to live up to the very high standard that the movie had set in the theater, and I was not disappointed. The clarity and detail are even better than my 1080i could keep up with. I guess now I need to go out and buy a 3d 240 1080p to make sure I see all the detail.

Story makes no sense. A sleepy movie, predictable with alot of shinny, plastic space ship toys. Actors are still reading lines from scripts. It's a waste of money.
This was the Best of the Best Star Treks movies. March 10, 2010 S. Wallace 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This was hugely enjoyable. The new cast did a beautiful job portraying our favorite Star Trek characters and the story line was riveting. I was worried about bringing in new actors but they carried it off so well I can't imagine them not being in the next Star Trek movie. The special effects were perfect. I thought I was on a ship in space. There wasn't anything to distract from the story. The new crew are just great but I think the best new actor played Scotty. Buy this movie. You won't regret it.
